Dana Coffield - President & Chief Executive Officer
Prior to joining Gran Tierra Energy in May 2005, Dana was Vice President of the Middle East Business Unit for EnCana Corporation, responsible for business development, exploration operations, commercial evaluations, government and partner relations, planning and budgeting, environment/health/safety, security and management of several overseas operating offices. He held various senior management positions for EnCana's predecessor, Alberta Energy Company, including petroleum exploration operations in five countries. Dana was previously with ARCO International for ten years, where he participated in exploration and production operations in North Africa, SE Asia and Alaska. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with an MSc and PhD in Geology and holds a BSc in Geological Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. Dana is also a member of the AAPG, the CSPG, and is a Fellow of the Explorers Club.
James Rozon - Chief Financial Officer
On May 2, 2012, Mr. Rozon was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Gran Tierra Energy. Mr. Rozon has served as Gran Tierra’s Corporate Controller from October 1, 2007 to December 2011. He has previous experience in accounting, finance and administration in the petroleum and technology industries in Canada. During his career, his responsibilities have included management of finance related activities of Canadian and American oil and gas exploration and production companies operating in Canada and the United States of America and a software development company operating in Canada, the United States, China and Sweden. He was Controller of Sound Energy Trust, a publicly listed Canadian oil and gas trust from July 2006 to September 2007, at which time it was sold. From October 2002 to June 2006, and previously from July 1995 to February 1998, he was the Corporate Controller of Zi Corporation, a Canadian software development company publicly listed in both Canada and the United States of America. From June 2000 to September 2002, he was the Controller for Energy Exploration Technologies, an American publicly listed oil and gas exploration company operating in Canada and the United States. From April 1998 to May 2000, he was the Manager, Financial Reporting of Summit Resources Limited, a publicly listed Canadian oil and gas exploration and development company with operations in Canada and the United States of America. From June 1990 to June 1995, Mr. Rozon worked in public practice for five years for Deloitte & Touche LLP including one year as an audit manager in the Oil and Gas group in the Calgary, Alberta office. Mr. Rozon holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Saskatchewan
Shane O'Leary - Chief Operating Officer
Shane O’Leary joined Gran Tierra Energy as Chief Operating Officer effective March 2, 2009. Previously Shane joined First Calgary Petroleum Ltd (FCP) in 2006 as COO and was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2007. in April 2008 he was appointed President & CEO and led an effort to explore strategic alternatives which resulted in the sale of the company to the Italian major ENI , for $1.3 billion, in September 2008. Prior to his position with FCP, Mr. O’Leary served as VP and Business Unit Leader, Brazil, for EnCana where he led the Brazil team in the appraisal and evaluation of EnCana’s offshore reserves as well as the acquisition of new acreage. He was also the architect of a technology cooperation agreement with the Brazilian national oil company, Petrobras, involving numerous partnerships in offshore acreage in exchange for assistance to Petrobras in applying Canadian heavy oil production technology in Brazil. His additional experience includes 17 years working for BP/Amoco most recently as Program Manager of their Alaska Gas Business Unit and in Egypt as Vice President of Business Development. Mr. O’Leary has more than 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry working projects in North America, the Middle East, Africa, South America, the Caspian and Trinidad.
Mr. O’Leary graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering and went on to obtain his MBA from the University of Western Ontario.
David Hardy - General Counsel, VP Legal and Secretary
David has more than 20 years experience in the legal profession. Before joining Gran Tierra Energy in March 2010, he worked for EnCana Corporation for 9 years and held various positions, including: Vice President Divisional Legal Services, Integrated Oil and Canadian Plains Divisions; Vice President Regulatory Services, Corporate Relations Division; and Associate General Counsel, Offshore and International Division. For 4 of his 8 years in the Offshore and International Division of EnCana, Mr. Hardy led the Legal and Commercial Negotiations Group. He has experience in new ventures, dispositions and operations in various countries, including Australia, Brazil, Chad, Libya, Oman, Qatar and Yemen. Prior to his time at EnCana, Mr. Hardy spent over 10 years in private practice and was a partner in a law firm in Calgary, Alberta. He holds a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Calgary (converted from an LLB Degree in 2011) and is a member of the Law Society of Alberta and the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators.
Rafael Orunesu - President, Gran Tierra Energy Argentina
Rafael was most recently Engineering Manager for Pluspetrol Norte SA, where he was responsible for planning and development operations in the Peruvian North jungle. He participated in numerous evaluation and asset purchase and sale transactions covering Latin America and North Africa with Pluspetrol. Rafael was previously with Pluspetrol in Argentina where he managed technical and economic evaluations for production operations. He began his career with YPF, initially as a geologist in the Austral Basin of Argentina and eventually as Chief of Exploitation Geology and Engineering for the Catriel Field in the Nuequ'en Basin, where he was responsible for drilling programs, workovers and secondary recovery projects. Rafael has a postgraduate degree in Reservoir Engineering and Exploitation Geology from Universidad Nacional de Buenos Aires and a degree in Geology from Universidad Nacional de la Plata, Argentina.
Duncan Nightingale - President, Gran Tierra Energy Colombia
Duncan has 30 years of corporate head office and resident in-country international operating experience. His experience spans all aspects of managing exploration programs, development and production operations, new business ventures, portfolio management and strategic planning. He has worked in many countries and hydrocarbon provinces including Latin America, Middle East and Far East, C.I.S, North Sea, Eastern Europe, Australasia, North, East and West Africa. Duncan has a proven track record of reserves additions and the ability to create and manage highly efficient and successful multi-disciplinary teams.
Duncan commenced his E&P career with Britoil (now B.P.), in 1981, before progressing his international career with Arco International. Subsequently held a range of senior management positions in Artumas Group, Dana Gas in the United Arab Emirates, EnCana and Nexen Inc. Duncan graduated from the University of Nottingham in the U.K. with a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Geology.
Júlio César Moreira - President, Gran Tierra Energy Brasil
Júlio is a native Brazilian and has over twenty-five years of experience working for international companies in Brasil and the USA. Prior to joining Gran Tierra Energy Inc, Júlio was Managing Director for IBV Brasil Petróleo Ltda, and Brasil Country Manager for EnCana Corporation. Júlio managed the operations start up of EnCana Corporation in Brasil, and was responsible for business development, government relations, joint venture partner relations, community relations, and also helped capture and manage assets which were later sold for a combined value of over US$500 million. Previous, Júlio was Brasil – Business Development & New Ventures Vice President for Unocal Corporation and also held senior management positions with Brookfield Brasil, Metallurg Inc. and Petrobras. Júlio was a Director for the Energy & Mining Committee of Canada Brasil Chamber of Commerce. He is a graduate of Fluminense Federal University in Rio de Janeiro and has a Marketing post-graduate degree from Rio Catholic University. Júlio holds an Executive MBA degree from Rio de Janeiro Federal University - UFRJ/COPPEAD and completed the Western Ontario’s Executive Management Program.
Carlos Monges – President, Gran Tierra Energy Peru
Carlos is Peruvian and has over 30 years experience in the oil industry. He joined Gran Tierra upon its acquisition of Petrolifera Petroleum Limited in March 2011. He was Petrolifera’s country manager in Peru since 2005, with responsibility for management and exploratory operations in three onshore blocks. Carlos has extensive knowledge of the geology of Peru. He was the senior geologist on the team that performed for Perupetro a geological and geophysical assessment of Peru’s hydrocarbon basins which was sponsored by the Canadian and Peruvian governments. Prior to that, Carlos was the Operations Manager for Energy Development, Anadarko Petroleum and then BPZ Energy with respect to various offshore and onshore blocks in Peru. He began his career in the industry working as a field development geologist and a well-site and production geologist in Talara basin for Petroperu and Occidental Petroleum and also worked as a mud engineer in drilling operations in Venezuela and Argentina. Carlos received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Geological Engineering from Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Lima in 1978, performed studies on exploration techniques at Robertson Research Center in United Kingdom in 1990, and completed certificate studies on oil industry management at the IHRDC program in Boston, USA in 1997. He is a current member and past director of the Peruvian Geological Society.
